To talk about the Pérez Galdós Museum we must first situate the character of Benito Pérez Galdós: novelist, playwright, chronicler, politician, and if that were not enough: canary. So we can find in the commercial area of Triana the birthplace of the writer, where he lived with his family until he was 19 years old when he went to study in Madrid, now a museum.
The Pérez Galdós Museum is a typical Canarian house of the XIX century, distributed around two central courtyards. The original structure and materials have been tried to respect as much as possible but with some modification to enlarge and adapt it.
Inside there is a documentary archive and the library of Galdós, as well as furniture, works of art, photographs, decorative objects, musical instruments …, of the writer who give us testimony of the physical spaces of the novelist’s daily environment and Situated in a 19th century environment.
As for the museographic design of the permanent exhibition, the rooms are conceived as a documented recreation of the domestic and family environments in which the life of the writer in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria took place. Also the reproductions of his room of Madrid and the bedroom and office that had the writer in his house of Santander are found.
